Stud Earrings
On this page you'll find silver and gold stud earrings, as well as birthstone, pearl and gemstone studs. Stud earrings sit snugly against the earlobe and are usually small or medium-sized.
The line between studs and small drop earrings can sometimes blur, especially when a stud has a little loop with a tiny pendant hanging from it.
Most of our designs are Taika-korut's own, and you won't find them in other shops. See the full range on our all earrings page.
Shop by material or stone
- Silver earrings: sterling silver 925. Popular motifs include the tree of life, knots, leaves, suns and animals.
- Gold earrings: 9ct (375) gold. Precious and semi-precious gemstones are especially popular in gold studs.
- Gemstone earrings: genuine gemstones, including birthstones with a stone for every month.
- Swarovski earrings: silver crystal studs in more than ten colours, from clear and black to turquoise and fuchsia.
Ask Riikka: what size stud earrings should I choose?
Riikka is one of the two founders of Taika-korut and has been helping customers choose their jewellery since 2009.
"Many people wonder when ordering whether a stud will be too small and if they should go bigger. Once it's in, most find that 6–8 mm is just right. It's in proportion to the earlobe and the position of the piercing, and it sits flat against the lobe rather than sticking out past the edge."
What about colourful gemstones?
"For those, I recommend a smaller size, especially in gold. A strongly coloured stone can look too big at 8 mm, while a 5–7 mm stone looks more refined and more genuine on the ear. Gold studs also tend to be a little smaller anyway, because gold is expensive and earrings always come in pairs."
Why do stud earrings sometimes droop?
"It usually comes down to how thick the earring is. The further it sticks out from the earlobe, the more easily it tips forward. This is more noticeable if the piercing has stretched over the years and the back no longer holds the earring firmly. In that case, a low, flat design is the best choice, as it stays upright against the lobe."
Why choose studs over drop earrings?
"A stud doesn't swing or catch on your hair, scarf or hat, so you can put it on in the morning and forget about it all day. Many people don't like the way drop earrings swing, especially larger ones. Price is another reason: gold studs are usually more affordable than drop styles because they contain less gold. Studs are also classically elegant. Not everyone wants to draw attention with big earrings, especially at work."
Are stud earrings suitable for sensitive ears?
"Our silver and gold earrings contain no nickel, and all our earrings comply with EU nickel restrictions (REACH Regulation 1907/2006, Annex XVII). When a customer tells me their ear is red, I always take it seriously, but it isn't always an allergy. Often, simply disinfecting the earring, cleaning the earlobe and giving it a few days' rest without earrings is enough. Anything that sits tightly against the earlobe collects dirt and bacteria during the day, and air can't circulate properly. That's why it's a good idea to take studs out at night and clean them regularly."
